Carlos Mejia ~ The Sheep

When I was a child my favorite possessions was always my stuffed animals. I don’t know what it was about them but i have always loved them. Sadly i can only remember a couple from when i was small. I remember having a blue dinosaur, but unfortunately when i took it to New Jersey I lost it. I also remember having a grey whale – named Willy – but one day it ripped and i was unable to repair it, so i had to throw it away. I remember one more stuffed toy and that was a turtle. This one I always kept replacing with a new one; until maybe like 3 years ago, i haven’t gotten a new one since. As time passed, the stuffed toys got older and older, so i threw them away and replaced them with a new ones, until now. I now have a new favorite stuffed animal; Its a giant stuffed sheep. My girfriend gave it too me for Christmas, so it means alot; but that’s not the only reason it means alot. One day, she and I went to Time Square to just look around the stores. We went into the big Toy’s “R” Us and thats where I find it. It was just so adorable and fluffy, and i wanted it. later on got it for Christmas. That Toy’s “R” Us has always been my favorite of all time. My parents would always take me there to buy my toys, but i would always be afraid to go by the big T-rex. So I have a bunch of memories in that Toy’s “R” Us; unfortunately the Toy’s “R” Us has closed down for good. So the sheep that my girlfriend gave me is the very last thing that I have or ever will get from that specific Toy’s “R” Us; which makes it super speacil to me. This time my stuffed sheep isn’t going anywhere; I’m going to try to keep it new for as long as I can.

I walked down this path, and i wasn’t sure were it was leading me too. There was a bunch of tress. The trees were so thick that barley any sunlight qas passing threw. It was mostly dark and i felt as if i was being followed. I was finally getting to end; and i was able to tell because i saw light comimg from straight ahead. As i approached the exit i saw that the floor was covered with grass and the huge trees were still everywhere. I then noticed a creature running, and thats when i found out where i was. Somehow walking threw the path i travled back in time;and not just a couple of years. I have travled back 67 million years to the late cretaceous period. I was able to tell this because the creature I just saw was the king of all beast; the Tyranasorus Rex. The T-rex has just killed another dinosaur and was devouring the corpse. I was unsure on whether to move or just stay put and try to hide. I finally decided to leave the area and look around, but i had to be as quiet as possible. As I left the T-rex behind i started seeing more dinosaurs. Some looked deadliy and other looked friendly. Regardless of how they looked i stayed away; just to be safe. The sun started going down, so i decided to find my way back to the path that lead me there. I wasn’t sure what kinds of creatures roumed at night and i wasn’t trying to stay and find out. It took about an hour before i found the path once again. I walked threw it once again, i was relieved to finally be away from that place. I wasn’t sure if i should tell anyone or keep it to my self. I finally decided; I was going to keep it to my self and never speak of it again.

Is it just me or do you listen to different types of music depending on your mood? I’m pretty sure its not just me. Music tends to be someones way to express themselfs. In the article ” How and Why Is Music a Good Tool For Health?” Elizabeth Scott talks about how music has a profound effect on your body and mind. Music is used for so many ways, including helping people with health issues. I agree with Elizabeth Scott, music dose effect ones body. It all depends on someones mood and also the beat of the song; one can say music is the best medicine.

“Research has shown that music with a strong beat can simulate brainwaves to synchronize with the beat. Faster beats bring sharper concentration and more alart thinking”. I can agree with this research. I usually like to play games – on my Play Station 4, a gaming counsel- and when i do i play fast music. In my games one has to be alert about what’s happening around them so they won’t die. Research also found that “slower beats promote a calm, meditative state. I can also realte to this; i usually listen to slower songs when I’m about to sleep or when i just want relax.

Music doesn’t only help with moods. It can also affect your health. “Reseach [ has out that] breathing and heart rate may be affected by the changes music can bring. This means slower may mean slower breathing and a slower heart rate” which is need by most people. Music is also being used gor therapy. It’s calles music therapy, which uses music to heal. “Hospitals are starting to use music therapy to help with pain management, depression, to promote movement, tp calm parents, to ease muscle tension, and other benefits”. I beleive music therapy will help plenty of people; music has ways helped me threw many things, good or bad.

Music will always be very important to me. Mostly everyone would agree with me; you can express your with music nkt matter what mood your in. As long as musiv therapy is there, i believe it will help plenty of people going threw things.

Do you remember the good old days? When the best part of school was recess; I centrally do. In the article ” Playtime is Over” David Elkind talks about how schools are nowadays and how recess is being taken away from children, and having recess coaches while ghe kids play. I believe that children deserve to keep their recess because it is an important part of their childhood.
Recsess is what keeps “the culture of childhood” from disappearing. The culture of childhood “is found all over the world. It includes songs, riddles, and rhythms passed on by one generation to another. Child games – such as marbles, hopscotch, and hide-and-seek- are also included in the culture of childhood. Most of these games have been played by everyone and if you werr to ever hear the names you would know exactly what game one was talking about.
Recess is also a “socializing procces”. Children are able to make new friends, because usually as kids are about to start playing a game other children want to join in. At recess children also learn to “settle their own quarrels, to make and break their own rules, and to respect the rights of others”. Children also learn that “friends could be cruel as well ss kind, and that life was not always fair”. Every kid should be able to experience this on their own.
Lately schools are increasingly hiring “recess coaches”. Recess coaches are there to basically control recess activities and not allow children to do what they want. Even “critics have suggested that such coaching is another example of the “over scheduling and over programming of our children”. Although recess coaches may not be wanted, but it is a far better choice than eliminating recess forever.
Recess will always be an important part of a child’s gorth and culture. They learn many skills during recess and well it is always great to have a little break from learning.

I did good at finding the verb and subject, but when it came for me to do it on my own i feel lile i need a little more help on that. I understand commas, placing capital letters, and apostrophes. I also just need to get to know the terms compound sentence, complex sentence, coordinating conjunctions, snd conjunction adverbs a bit more. For the writing part i feel lile i need to add more of my own opoinions and not just quotes.

A person that gives me strength and hope for my future is my older cousin. He also wants to become a nurse; but he is a couple steps above me. He gose to Hunter college and just finished his first year in the nursing program. I’ve seen him study all night just for a single test. I can already tell that nursing will be very hard anf challenging; but since I seen him do it, i kniw o can as well. I can also go to him and ask what classes would be good for me to take; since hes been through that process already. Another con is that if i ever need help studying or struggling with something , I’ll always have him to help me out.

Superman and Me ~ Carlos Mejia

  1. 1. A “smart Indian is a dangerous person, widely feared and ridiculed” because “Indian children were expected to be stupid”. Non- Indians adopted this opinion – that Indians “are” stupid- because when they come to face with non – Indians they duck their heads and just stay quiet. Indian children adpoted this opinion because they were afraid pf the non- Indians.

    2. When the author says ” I was trying to save my life” i believe he meant tjat he wanted to do what ever he could to get out of the reservation. I think he’s trying rk say that getting an education can help you in life; by getting more money, a better job or even a career.

    3. The characteristics needed to break free from sterotypes is determination. One must be determined to break those stereotypes and do the opposite of what they are. It may be hard because kf everyone knowing those sterotypes but with determination you can get passed that.

    4. It dose help me understand what a paragraph. A paragraph has a series of sentences. Each paragraph has a main idea and then exaples to support it. Like in the story ” Superman and Me” the house was the paragraph and the rooms were the ideas supporting it.

It was a stormy day, i woke up alone in my room. I looked around the room to see if anyone else was there with me.  5 minutes passed and and that’s when I noticed I was all alone. At this time i was only about 11 years old; so i eas terrified to br alone. I soon turned on the TV so the room wouldn’t be at complete silence. I waited about 20 minutes for someone to come home ; it felt lile hours passed by. After another 10 minutes I finally heard the door nob being open. The door soon slowly widens, I then see kt was just my mom coming in. I was just so releaved. She then tells me to go into tbe kitchen, i then wondered why? I didnt really question her, so I did as she told me. As i go out side I see my dad standing there with my older couisn; they were holding a huge tank. They told me too look inside, so I did. I couldn’t beleive my eyes! It was my very first pet sitting inside of it; it was an adorable turtle! Right away I named it cookie since its shell reminded me of one.

Basically everyone in my family always told me “do your best in school. My uncle’s, aunt’s, cousins, grandparents, great grandparents, snd especially my parents. Even my girlfriend has gotten up set with me because of school. Yes i understand its important; but i dont really need everyone everyone to keep on telling me the same thing over and over again. My parents are usually the ones who bug me aboht it the most- well my girlfriend as well- and well basically they tell me what every other parent – who came from another country- tell there kids; ” I didn’t come all the way here just for you to fool around in school”; well that  was usually during the afternoon going towards the night. During the morning it would be  from my girlfriend. She’ll tell me “do your best in class” ” always pay attention” “don’t talk to much” “always do your homework” “never skip class”; but im happy she did. I feel like if it wss for her and my parents telling me o wpuld of never made it to college. They kept me on the right path and i will forever be grateful.
