Hi, my name is Astrid. It’s my second semester at City Tech. I’m currently a Health Science major, but I’ll be applying to the Nursing program in the fall. After reading the article and watching the video, I can definitely say my family has had an influence on my education, my goals, my attitude, etc. I’m a first-generation college student. I’m also the daughter of two immigrants, two immigrants who have made immense sacrifices to give me the opportunities they never had. Their restricted education has given me the chance to see things uniquely. I’ve been privileged to have seen such life vicissitudes that make me value every single opportunity that comes my way. As an only child, I constantly feel the pressure to make my parents proud. Despite the language and socioeconomic barriers, theyβve always supported me no matter what. Growing up in a supportive household allowed me to build my own identity, one that would guide me through my academic journey.
