Is a Selfie Art?

I have pondered this thought and in my opinion selfie can be an art.  In general, photography is essentially an art.  The thing about a selfie is that you have the ability to manipulate the content of that photo.  As a result of face-front cameras, people can really now manipulate a photo and can pretty much compromise any error which was previously present in posing for a photo.  So yes, I do believe a selfie can be an art form.
