Views from Versailles to post-Katrina New Orleans

Not all photographs need people in them to get their message heard by the viewers. As the saying goes, “a picture is worth a thousand words” and Polidori truly does make this saying true. As an artist, his job is to capture what he feels and sees at the time. When viewing the photographs, they speak for themselves; nothing is seen but the devastation that the natural disaster has left behind. His photographs are the results of powerful statements of a unique event. When looking back at the photos, some will probably feel astounded on how they were capable of getting back on their feet after such a catastrophic event. Polidori’s goal is to capture these moments and to preserve them for people in the future to see. Art has no set rules and why should Polidori be criticized for not having people in the photos if he mainly focuses on aestheticizing the setting to bring out the area. Artists will always be criticized on the things that others find different but they will have to put up with it and hope that others may connect.
