FYLC TITLE:

Observation, Expression, Exploration: Experiencing Architecture and the Visual Culture of New York City

FYLC DESCRIPTION:

We often move unconsciously through our worlds, overlooking the buildings, streets, monuments, and we pass in our daily routines.  Yet within our built environment lurks a narrative of human activity, if we only take the time to observe and explore.  Learning to observe requires a conscious effort of accessing the facts and transposing them into verbal, written, or graphic expressions.

This learning community will introduce you to ways of observing and writing through an exploration of New York City’s built environment and the stories it inspires.  Using New York City as a living laboratory, you will develop visual and textual literacies that allow you to think about, write about, and graphically represent architecture and discover the rich expression of the visual culture of New York City.
