Shooting this rose was quite difficult. I used my desktop light to illuminate the background doing this created a shadow against the wall. I liked the outcomes of this image because it has warm colors. I used the walls of my room as the background.

HW3: A Rose is a Rose

For this assignment I though that i would do the same as we did in class, so i figure positioning the light wasn’t going to be as hard as last homework of the shoe.

I found it fun playing with the Rose, putting it in different positions and also the light. Hopefully i get the mood for most of the pictures.

Rose

DSC_0256 For this weeks assignment we use light to create mood on a rose. The light and shadows can be all thats necessary to create a feeling. in this case this rose has a sad mood with the shadows and light in the background. The dark petals and just a portion of color can give a depressing and sad feeling.

The light help create the mood by creating shadows on the rose that gave the photo a sad, dark feel when the light is positioned in a certain position. When I used two lights, I gave the photo a bright, happy mood, as in these photos, there is less of a shadow.

Red Rose

Homework #3: A Rose is a Rose is a Rose.

Valerien Yepes - Red Rose

The light helped me communicate with the mood because when it is brighter and has less shadows, it releases a positive emotion. While the dark images gives off a melancholy and lonely feeling. I put the light farther away from the rose, because I didnt want the rose to have a harsh and intense light. To show romance and sadness I made sure to diffuse the light by using tracing paper and a pink umbrella. The umbrella made the rose appear pink. It also gave it a more softer and smoother look.

A Rose is a Rose is a Rose

I imagined this assignment to be a lot like what we had done in class last week. for our Valentine Day Shoot. Except the big difference this time is that we had to use only a rose, and nothing else. I photographed the rose from various angles, like we had done in class. It was difficult for me to capture the rose at different moods. I wasn’t completely sure how to go about doing that other than with the lighting. I tried photographing after moving the lighting around to create dark areas on the rose. I thought this might give my pictures a more mysterious feeling. I chose to stick with my dark red pinkish background because I thought it would be most appropriate for the theme of this shoot.

A Shoe

For this assignment, I chose to photograph a new shoe that I haven’t worn yet. I chose a black leather Steve Madden boot with silver buckles. I felt as though this boot had a lot of potential. There’s a lot going on and I figured that at every angle I could manage to make my shots look very different; maybe even abstract. I moved my boot around three or four times-this way I could photograph my boot from different sides. It was a little difficult getting used to the camera but after the first few shots, my hand stopped trembling and my shots became clear and not no longer blurred. Also, some shots I took were unflattering at times; you couldn’t even tell that they were pictures of a boot. As I moved one of the clamp lights, which was directly above my subject, I noticed how much the focus of light changed on my boot. Although I moved the light just two or three times, I noticed what a difference it made on what areas were specifically lit up.

Shoe

For this shoot I use my DIY studio I use a soccer shoe and directed the light in as many different ways as I could. This shoot was a little hard due to the light being a little bigger than the shoe it seem as some of the shots come out similar even if the light was in different sports. I corrected the white balance on photoshop as my camera wasn’t cooperating with the light. The detail on the front of the shoe was the most interesting part of the composition.

I chose these sneakers because it has a lot of designs and so i purposely chose it to capture all of the details. I used the desktop light and some window lighting. This made the sneaker to cast a great shadow on the paper. I was impressed with how smooth the background came out. The lighting could have been a little brighter.

Building this studio was a great experience. At first it seemed difficult to find space and calculate where exactly to put the blank piece of paper. It was a good thing i found large pieces of paper stored in one of my old bags. I placed one big one in front of my closet doors and the other is placed on top of the other paper. For my lighting i used a desktop lamp and also a regular lamp to aluminate the room and object.
