I am currently a third year college student at New York City College of Technology working towards my Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management. I also have my Associate’s degree in Liberal Arts that I received at Kingsborough Community College. What I plan to work towards with my Hospitality degree is a profession in event planning. When starting my college career I was completely unsure of where I wanted my life to go. I knew that I was a very determined individual and have always had an admiration towards event planning but didn’t know where to begin. Once coming to the end of my time at Kingsborough I knew that a decision had to be made. After many hours of research I saw that City Tech was not just the only CUNY school with a Hospitality degree, but the program itself was just as amazing.
During my time now in the major, I grew a love for it that I never knew existed. What intrigues me the most about it is the way that you get to learn about every aspect in hospitality such as culinary and restaurant management but still get to choose a main focus. This I feel allows you to get a better understanding of the business and will benefit my career in the long run. A well rounded program was not the only thing that this new college had brought me, it has also introduced me to new opportunities that I never thought were possible such as the Disney College Program. I am spending six months in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida; one of the happiest places on earth, as well as a major icon in the hospitality industry. No one can create better guest expectations than Disney World, and I had the chance to be a part of the magic as well as learn interactive skills I could not get elsewhere.
As of right now starting the hospitality degree two years into my college career I do still feel very new but also very eager. I plan to finish my degree and hopefully find my way back to to Florida to start my career. There are still many options for my future and many more opportunities that I plan to take full advantage of. I am ready to take the next step in my career and hopefully this leads towards a thriving career in event planning. I feel ready to do what I have to do to make an impact on the hospitality industry.
