Hi everyone,

Thanks for participating in the “Day 10 Survey” – this was very helpful for me to understand how our class activities look like from your perspective, what’s working and what’s not. I wanted to share the (aggregated, anonymous) results here, and talk about coming adjustments:

Based on your experiences in the first 10 days of class, how helpful do you find each of the following activities?
(1 = very helpful, 5 = very unhelpful)

State your preference – how often would you like to see each activity take place during the rest of the semester?
(1 = as much as possible, 5 = as little as possible)

Conclusions

While the results were mixed, there are a few important conclusions:

  1. Overall, synchronous meetings are considered more effective & desirable than asynchronous meetings. Because of this, going forward we will be holding mostly synchronous meetings with occasional asynchronous meetings. This also aligns well with the course material – as we move into studying different proof techniques, live lectures make the most sense (and provide you with the opportunity for immediate feedback/responses to questions).
  2. Office hours are helpful. This is great feedback, and I will continue to hold office hours from 3-4pm on class days (and by appointment at all other times). I will make an effort to be diligent about checking the waiting room during office hours, and you can help by shooting me an email if you plan to attend.

That’s it for now – thanks again for your participation, everybody.
