I wanted to post an update about my Office Hours, which are from 3-4pm, T/Th (just before our class). These take place on Zoom, at our usual class meeting Zoom link (same password).

Attendance has been light, for a few different reasons – but I think I’ve been able to help the folks that I have met with.

  • I know that the scheduled times don’t work for everyone (conflicts with work, family, classes, or other responsibilities).
  • For my part, I am still getting used to the Zoom office hours, and I fear there have been instances when I missed a student entering the Zoom room – if this happened to you, my apologies!

Going forward, I’d like to make two changes, in hopes that this will reduce some of these challenges:

  1. Please send me an email when you plan to come to office hours. I know this won’t always be possible, just do your best. A day or two ahead of time is absolutely best, an hour or two ahead of time is helpful, one minute ahead of time can’t hurt! I will try to pay better attention to my Zoom waiting room during office hours.
  2. I am happy to keep office hours flexible – so if you’d like to meet me at another time during the week, send me an email and we’ll work find a time that works for both of us.

HEADS UP: There will be a few instances when I am unavailable during scheduled office hours. For example, I will not be available 3-4pm next Tuesday, 10/6. I will always announce these on the OpenLab. However, as noted in 2 above, I’m happy to work out alternatives!
