This case is about a man named Malik Taylor, 32 yrs old who has admitted to engaging in sexual activity’s with students age 16-19, while he held several positions in a Manhattan high school.  This individuals story is longer than the one i have posted and if you want you can click on the other links within this story, to be well informed.

Pedophilia is a serious psychological disorder, but from my studies not all who commit child sexual abuse meet the clinical diagnosis standards for pedophilia, which pertain to prepubescents (years immediately preceding  puberty). There is not any cure for this but therapy which can reduce the incidences. Mr. Taylor was given three months, while it is true he is on the sex offenders list, and will not work in schools again, I am questioning a system that would agree to such a plea. If as human service workers we are to council these individuals, I would think that the system should first let them know that a serious offence has occurred. Mr. Taylor’s defense was he did not know their ages. I would like to know exactly what diagnosis Mr. Taylor is suffering from, however; it appears to be pedophilia. What would you do class if this case was placed on your desk, as a human service worker?

  1. Wow! I had to keep re-reading this article because I was amazed as to how easy he got it. It seems like nowadays the system is failing us, example the Trayvon Martin case. If I was given this case I would probably suggest a psychiatric hospital. Am I going to extreme? Maybe but his “punishment” seemed to lenient to me and it’s better to keep him inside then have him out in 3 months. This puzzles me!

    • JBautista I am confused also, and I do not think you have gone to far with your diagnosis. Fact is he is a repeat offender and should be treated as such. I am disappointed in this ruling. I have no idea the message this ruling is sending but I cannot imagine it is a good one.
