Individual Strengths

When it comes to personal strengths I believe that interpersonal interaction is a one of the main ones. As a nurse I have to deal with people constantly, answer their questions, implement teaching, it is very important to be a good listener as well as a good speaker. I am not overbearing in a conversation, on a contrary I form my thought with short clear sentences without too many words. I consider myself an empathetic person. I believe that in nursing it is a key to good communication. Throughout my college experience I have discovered that I am a good team member, who is responsible and good on communication and availability. During my BSN program, my classmates and I have been broken down into small teams of either 5 or 3 and had to find a way to either disagree or agree on some issues. Sometimes, dealing with many opinions in a group can be challenging, and whenever a team member can actively listen and engage with a group avoiding conflicts I consider it a success, partially because I have learned not to argue and take other team member’s opinions to my attention before my own. Another personal strength that I want to mention is persistence. I have come a long way just like my classmate nurses to get my BSN degree, but I think it was more challenging in my case because I am a foreign nurse for whom NCLEX was a harder step to overcome then for the US graduates. I have not given up, and here I am approaching my graduation from NYCCT with my BSN degree in nursing.
