Here you will find several research papers proving my competence in being able to provide research based care due to extensive experience in researching.

  • To demonstrate my ability to comprehend an article and be able to extract important information, below I have attached my literature response review for an article titled “Caries Classification” published in the Dimensions of Dental Hygiene Journal.  It reviews the varies systems in place used to identify caries lesions.  I concluded that with these established systems, it is left up to all dental professionals to implement this evidence based approach to ensure that caries incidence/oral health disparities can be effectively minimized across all populations regardless of socioeconomic status.

  • In November 2016 I presented a powerpoint presentation to my class about a developmental anomaly called Enamel Pearl.   This presents as a small nodule of enamel below the cemento enamel junction.  Enamel pearls occur mainly on permanent teeth, but primary teeth can also be affected.  Below you will find my presentation which includes etiology, common sites, its radiographic appearance, how does it effect treatment and the role of the dental hygienist if this anomaly is found.

  • In preparation for my research topic of “The Unique Properties of Turmeric in Prevention of Periodontal Disease” I did extensive research and became competent in critiquing peer reviewed journals.  Below you will find an article critique of an article titled “Comparative evaluation of 0.1% turmeric mouthwash with 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate in prevention of plaque and gingivitis:  A clinical and microbiological study” which was published in the Journal of Indian Society of Periodontology on July 2012.

  • During my Dental Anatomy course, I explored a topic that was unknown to me, the dental care crisis in America.  An investigation by FRONTLINE, lead to a documentary titled “Dollars and Dentist”, which sheds light on the correlation between patient quality care and profit within the dental care system currently within the United States.  Below you will find my paper reviewing the mentioned documentary and my personal opinion about this unfortunate reality in America.
