Value and Composition

This artwork made by Caravaggio grabs the viewer’s attention with the contrast between the wing and the black background. In addition, value helps to diffirentiate the background and foreground creating perspective. This helps to guide viewer’s eye from one point to another of the artwork. Also, it gives the illusion of a three dimensional shape by using shadow and highlights.
