The culture of NYPIRG is very energetic. Because we are pushing many students on campus to not be sideliners to many of these NYPIRG core issues that affect all New Yorkers, we tend to really jump into things. We can dress casual, there’s no dress code. We don’t have personal work stations, all the other interns and the Project Coordinator are inside of one office, there’s multiple chairs in the office where we sit down and brief about what is the task at hand today. Hours are flexible, you can choose any time of the day between 9am to 6pm. There’s no lunch break, so you come already prepared to work, you eat before you come or you eat after you leave.
Normal workday would be come in, then get the briefing on what is the task today, it could be clip boarding in the lobby area of campus, including the new campus across the street and even the engineering hall. Or clipboarding in the library of campus. Then we sometimes do class reps, where we ask professors to borrow 10 minutes of the beginning of class to speak about what we do and how you can get involved. So far there hasn’t been any major design work that implements my design skills, but according to the Project Coordinator, he is finding some design orientated things for me to work on.
