Other Teaching/Instructional Responsibilities

Below you will find a list of the professional development activities I have participated in as Assistant and Associate Professor at New York City College of Technology. Due to the confidential nature of some of these items, documentation is located in the ePARSE file.

Associate Professor (2018-present)

  • Workshop Participant: Trauma-Informed Pedagogy, 5/5/23
  • Fellow: Open Educational Resources (OER), 2021-2022
    • Having participated in the OER Fellowship program in 2018, I reapplied for this academic year in order to deepen my understanding and commitment to Open Educational Resources as a pedagogical imperative. My project consisted of two elements: Part one involved creating from scratch a zero-cost O.E.R. for ENG 3407 (Gothic Literature and Visual Culture), a course that normally requires paid textbooks. Part two involved updating an existing O.E.R. course site for ENG 2180 (Studies in Identity and Orientation) with new and revised materials.
  • Participant: Teagle Foundation Core Books, 2021-2022
    • Upon returning from Fellowship Leave, I joined the Teagle Core Books grant project again. We worked together this year to develop curriculum for First-Year Writing courses using the Columbia Core Books and other canonical texts.
  • Mentor: Emerging Scholars Program, Spring 2022
    • I mentored a first-semester student from my ENG 1101 course, Ruth Lovely Joseph, and our poster was awarded 2nd place in the non-STEM category.
  • Participant: Teagle Foundation Grant Summer Institute, 2019
    • In June 2019, I participated in a Summer Institute of the Teagle Foundation Grant, which is funding a CUNY-Wide initiative based on Columbia University’s core books curriculum. It consisted of three full-day workshops at Columbia University and Hostos Community College. Instructors from all participating campuses met to begin discussing and developing curriculum and designing shared assignments for students using texts from Columbia University’s core curriculum. We also attended several seminars led by Columbia faculty.
  • Member: English 1101 Corequisite Development Team, Fall 2019
    • Participated in ongoing professional development meetings and activities to prepare for and refine the instruction of the new ENG 1101CO courses.

    • I participated in two online workshops held by iTEC to develop my distance learning practices. Even though I was not teaching during the Spring 2020 semester, I continued to develop my pedagogical practices to make sure I can offer students the best instruction in both face to face and online settings.
  • Participant: Tips about Accessibility for Online Learning Instructors, May 7, 2020
    • I participated in a webinar focused on helping online instructors design courses that are “welcoming to, accessible to, and inclusive of all students and instructors, including those with disabilities.” These skills are necessary to support inclusion both in the context of distance learning and in a classroom that regularly integrates technology.
  • Fellow: Open Educational Resources Intensive Program, Summer 2018
  • Member: English 1101 Corequisite Development Team, Spring 2019
