Essay #5 Summary

In this November20, 2011 essay by Rocio Reyes Gomez, called “Essay #5”, the author explains why Joralemon Street should be added to a revised version of the walking tour. She begins the essay by explaining that Brooklyn Law School is a school on this street, and both areas have a lot of history and so should be on a revised version of the walking tour. “Joralemon Street should be added to a revised version of the walking tour because the walking tour should include some schools and also some of Joralemon Streets history.” She states that Jerolemon Street should be on the walking tour because an important piece of Brooklyn’s history occurred here. “An important piece of Brooklyn’s history is that it’s first underground tunnel placed under the East River was built under Joralemon Street.” She then discusses that the Battery-Joralemon Street Tunnel is now being used by the No.4 and No.5 Lexington Avenue express trains, which are popular trains, and so the information would be a good addition to the walking tour. The author then explains that there is a lack of schools on the walking tour. She then explains that adding Brooklyn Law School to the walking tour would be convenient since it also has Brooklyn history. “The school has important history such as when Senator Carey and recent Brooklyn Law School graduates helped with the state and cities financial recovery.” The author then states that both of these areas would be a “perfect fit” to a revised version of the walking tour since both areas have important history that should be told to the walking tour participants.
