There are many factors we as Designers need to succeed in the design field. Today in class we learned factors such as work ethics, professional manners, being familiar with new technology, understand the principles of design, target audience, etc. However the most important factor as human beings is having the desire to succeed and with that expect challenges bought to us. We face challenges everyday but most of the times we are scared to approach them and try to find a solution possible. Most of the time is because we are stuck in the smallest circle of all time called our “comfort zone.”
Don’t get me wrong, having a comfort zone can be good when there is a topic in which a person is good at and exceed all expectations. But the down fall to that is the same person is not introduced to new ideas and is scared to try the new. Speaking for myself, I am always afraid to step out of my comfort zone, mostly because I feel my work isn’t good enough, other times I feel I am not doing as good as I am used too. However when stepping out of the comfort zone one can learn new skills and have a better understanding of the design world.
Learning new skills is a must and some of us just don’t make time to attend Designer Conference. Attending a conference is very important because it is relevant to your career and it’s a good way to show off your work, network, as well as learn from the professionals in the field. I have not yet attended to one of these but my goal this semester is to fine out more about them and attend, mostly because I can learn new strategies to practice in my own designs.
In some of these Designer conference you might be finding your new job, who knows. When you take some of your excellent work and show these designers, you might be surprised that some of them will be very intrigued by your design solutions or creations. Maybe they might give you the perfect opportunity you might had been waiting for, but you will not know until you attend a designer conference.
In another hand, many people these days have become a Freelancer. I believe becoming a Freelancer is a challenge for many of us. Becoming a Freelancer means working on your own and having a client who trusts you with their project and at the end they will be waiting for the best solution you have to offer. The hardest part is making connections and having people know what type of Designer you are and your work. After that it all falls under word of mouth, if your work is perfect and the client loves it, its sure that they will recommend you to their connections. But for me, becoming a Freelancer can be an option.
