Reading Lucy, an essay written by Jennifer Egan, is mostly about Jennifer Egan’s account of a friendly relatinship she developed between herself and a woman named Lucille Gerwitz. She details the fact the Lucille Kolkin was a fellow brooklynite who worked in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. She was a ship fitter who gained many experiences working in the Navy Yard. She also eventually marries Alfred Kolkin and becomes Lucille Kolkin after falling madly in love with him. Lucille later moves to California and Jennifer and Lucille communitcate through letters. In the letters, Lucille effectively describes her life, feelings, emotions, and the changes she is going through.
