Class Summary

Our class on 9/10 started off with the introduction to our peer advisor; Lorna Kowchai. Lorna introduced herself and told us what she would do for us as our peer advisor. She is a student just like us majoring in nursing and her experience in NYCCT is meant to guide us through our first year. She handed out a booklet called “The Companion for the First Year at City Tech” which we briefly looked through. Please be sure to read it as it will provide you with the insight needed to know your way around NYCCT. Lorna will be coming to class once every month to check our progress and help anyone that is in need of guidance. The best way to contact her is through e-mail which is lorna.kowchai@mail.citytech.cuny.edu Some important things she let us know about are the upcoming free Pizza Party for all students which will be held Sept. 20th from 1-2pm in room N119, free Tutoring starts Sept 11 at 1-3:30pm in room AG27A and the first 20 students will receive a $5 gift card redeemable in the school’s bookstore. After Lorna’s dismissal Professor Rosen went over with us the reading homework assignment we did on “Fort Greene Dreams”. We were able to put our thoughts on the piece which transcended into talking about what an essay is. Professor posted our views on what an essay is on OpenLab. We were then given two handouts, one which holds the breakdown of what is required to pass Eng 1101 and the other the grading guidelines. The class ended with Professor Rosen telling us our homework for Wednesday which is to have a finished essay of your passion, philosophy, and where you see yourself in 5 to 10 years. Don’t forget to include your photograph response. We also have to write a comment on a peer’s summary of Fort Greene Dreams, and take the critique on our own summary to do a revised version. Finally read Perdomo, “Where I’m From” in the class textbook.
