Field trip assignment (in two parts). DUE MONDAY MAY 18, at 8:30 a.m.

You will need to get to the Museum of Modern Art on 53rd St. in Manhattan between t5th and 6th Avenue to do this assignment. Admission to the museum is free with your student ID card.

You should be able to also purchase one postcard to write the assignment.

Do not skip the show and just buy the postcard. This is not to your advantage. I may test you about your knowledge of the show.

After having seen the show:

One Way Ticket: Jacob Lawrence’s Migration series and Other Works

1) You should write 1 and 1/2 or 2 pages  discussing the principles of composition and  discussion of color use in Lawrence’s work. For the color, you will need to work in colored pencil on tracing paper to illustrate your ideas.

Buying one postcard of a work, write this discussion up, attach the postcard to the pages and also 2) create an ad for a topic you think is appropriate for the selection. Do not worry too much about the look of the typography, You may do this with colored pencil on tracing paper. It can be the same size as the postcard. You can attach it next to the postcard with masking tape. Trim it close to the size of the work in the postcard.

Keep in mind that the ad will be larger than the postcard. Make sure the color is in keeping with the Lawrence work, and discuss your selections. Also describe why you have chosen the topic you did from the Lawrence work to advertize what you have.
