For more details and to keep up to date ALWAYS CHECK DESCRIPTIONS THE WEBSITE!! This is just meant to give you an overview but you’ll need to see the whole assignment! 

(instructors will have to add dates according to your schedule)

Week One (Jan 31-Feb 6): Introduction to the class

Day One HW:

  • Read three short blog posts about online learning
  • Post to your website your comments about being online again this term

Day Two HW:

  •      Read and write post responding to “How to Read like a Writer”
  •       Take the online technology survey
  •       Sign up for Perusall

Week Two (Feb 7-13) : Introduction to Genre and Unit One

Day One HW:

  •      Read and Annotate “Mother Tongue”
  •       Watch and Annotate “3 Ways to Speak English”
  •       Write a post about your experiences with “Englishes”

Day Two HW:

  •       Read and Annotate “Tardy” and “Maybe I could save myself by Writing”
  •       Write blog post about Education narrative genre

Week Three (Feb 14-20) : Topics and Drafts of Education narratives

Day One HW:

  •    Post two paragraphs describing an incident using concrete detail

Day Two HW:

  •    Post your SFD of your Education Narrative
  •      Write your Reviewer’s Memo

Week Four (Feb 21-27) : Peer review and finish Unit One

Day One HW:

  •       Read and Annotate “How to Write Meaningful Peer Response Praise”
  •       Read and comment on two assigned peer essays

Day Two HW:

  •       Post final draft of Education Narrative

Week Five (Feb 28- March 6) : Introducing Unit 2: Reflective Annotated Bibliography

Day One HW:

  •       Read and Annotate “A Talk to Teachers”
  •       Write post responding to “A Talk to Teachers”

Day Two HW:

  •       Read and Annotate “Research Starts with a Thesis Statement”
  •       Read and Annotate “Schools are Killing Curiosity”
  •       Write Blog Post  in response to texts

Week Six (March 7-13) : Finding research questions and starting source entries

Day One HW:  

  •       Post about your research question and issue. This is the first draft of your introduction!!

Day Two HW:

  •       Post first Source Entry (this is a big one!) 

Week Seven (March 14-20) : Genre review and Quotation review!

Day One HW:

  •       Read and annotate “Navigating Genres”
  •       Post about genres

Day Two HW:

  •       Read and annotate Graff & Birkenstein
  •       Post second source entry. Use a Quote Sandwich!

Week Eight (March 21-26): Finishing the Unit Two Rough Draft.

Day One HW:

  •       Post final source entry
  •       Post conclusion

Day Two HW:

  •       Post your compiled annotated bibliography draft and final note

Spring Break from March 27- April 4


Week Nine (April 5-10): Finishing the Unit Two Final Draft and Transition to Unit 3

Note: Rough Draft is due upon return from Spring Break

Day One HW:

  •       Final Draft of Unit Two: Reflective annotated bibliography

Day Two HW:

  •       Read and annotate Stedman, Write blog post in response.

 Week Ten (April 11-17): Beginning Unit 3

Day One HW:

  •       Proposal for Unit 3 project

Day Two HW:

  •       Finish and post “Know Your Publication” questions
  •       Comment on peers’ proposals

Week Eleven (April 18-24): Getting started on Unit 3, working on Artist’s Statements.

Day One HW:

  •       Begin working on new genre piece

Day Two HW:

  •       Post evidence of progress on your project

Week Twelve (April 25-May 1): Finish Unit Three

Day One HW:

  •       Post rough draft of Artist Statement

Day Two HW:

  •       Read and Annotate “The Maker’s Eye”
  •       Post final draft of Unit 3 project and Artist Statement

Week Thirteen (May 2-8): Work on Final Portfolio.

Day One HW:

  • No homework!

Day Two HW:

  •  Post a very rough draft of your final reflection.
  • Work on revisions

Week Fourteen: (May 9-15) Finishing up. 

Day One HW:

  •       Post a less rough draft of Final Reflection
  •       Post check-in about how you’re doing with the end of the semester

Day Two HW:

  •       Post Final Portfolio

      Note to instructors: you will decide the date you want the final portfolio to be due.
