The Traditional Research Paper is the Best by Alexandria Lockett is about the transition from the former way of writing papers to current forms of writing papers. Lockett compares and contrasts the way research papers are researched and how evidence is found. Lockett believes that the traditional paper is no longer the same because of the use of the internet, the lack of searching from a book.
âDue to technological, and thus pedagogical limitations, the traditional research paper is incapable of translating the affordances of research writing to online environments. Therefore, research 2.0 should respond to the significance of human interaction with the Internet and the politics of big data.â
âUnfortunately, the labor involved in researching and using the Internet for research tends to be ignored. Their teachers will obediently, and sometimes zealously, police plagiarism with the assistance of Googleâs robust search engines and Turnitinâ
âFor example, some textbook writers used to complain about how research papers often lacked primary sources and relied on questionable secondary materials despite physical librariesâ numerous resources.â
Wikipedia:
âAnother definition of research is given by John W. Creswell, who states that “research is a process of steps used to collect and analyze information to increase our understanding of a topic or issue”. It consists of three steps: pose a question, collect data to answer the question, and present an answer to the question.â
âThe Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary defines research in more detail as “studious inquiry or examination; especially : investigation or experimentation aimed at the discovery and interpretation of facts, revision of accepted theories or laws in the light of new facts, or practical application of such new or revised theories or lawsâ
âHowever, some researchers advocate for the reverse approach: starting with articulating findings and discussion of them, moving “up” to identification of a research problem that emerges in the findings and literature review. The reverse approach is justified by the transactional nature of the research endeavor where research inquiry, research questions, research method, relevant research literature, and so on are not fully known until the findings have fully emerged and been interpreted.â
Rachael,
Thanks for this post. In the future, please provide your personal reflection on a quotation, rather than pasting in quotes. The goal is to help students fine-tune an appreciation for how each mind receives communication and then processes it.
