Grade scale
Your overall course grade will be converted from a percent grade to a letter at the end of the semester according to the following grade scale:

Grading scheme
On March 26, the class adopted the following updated grading policy. Your overall course grade will come from the following components:
- 15% In-class test 1
- 15% In-class test 2
- 20% Final exam
- 25% Homework
- 25% Projects/presentations (10% Pythagorean theorem project + 15% in-class presentation)
Homework
Homework will usually be due at the beginning of class on Wednesdays. Most homework will be submitted physically on paper. If you complete your homework on a tablet, for example, print out your assignment and staple the pages before handing it in.
Late homework will be accepted but with penalties. The penalty will depend on when the instructor receives your assignment, not when you hand it in. Please note that your instructor is not on campus every day.
- Received on due date later than class time: 20% penalty
- Received day after due date: 50% penalty
- Another 10% penalty applied every day thereafter
Tests
There will be three in-class tests during the semester and an in-class final exam.
Tentative test dates:
- Test 1: 3/17
- Test 2: 4/28
- Final exam (firm date): 5/21
An unexcused absence from a test will result in a grade of zero. The Center for Student Accessibility can excuse absences for medical reasons. We will also follow CityTech’s bereavement policy for the loss of a close family member. No make-up exams will be given; instead if a student has an excused absence from a test, their grading scheme will be adjusted from the one listed above.
Test 1 Test Corrections
- Test corrections (for test 1 only) are optional, if you wish to improve your test 1 grade.
- Test corrections will be given as oral exams; schedule an appointment during office hours (other times may be available).
- During your appointment, you will give a one-on-one presentation to your instructor, explaining your corrected solution for up to three of the questions you answered on test 1.
- If you did not answer five questions on the test (for example, if you only answered two questions on Part 3 instead of three), then you may choose one of the questions you did not answer to present.
- If your presentation for a particular question is perfect (5/5) or close to perfect (4/5), then your presentation grade will replace your written test grade for that question. If your presentation score is not a 5/5 or 4/5, then your grade for that question will not be replaced.
- No notes are permitted during your presentation; you must present from memory.
- Be prepared to answer questions from your instructor during your presentation.
- Your may schedule only one 30-minute appointment for test corrections and you must present all of your solutions during that appointment.
- A sign-up sheet is available for you to schedule your appointment.
