Test #1 solutions problem #6a & #6b

6(a). True – The transpose of an invertible matrix is an invertible matrix
Ex:

A=

det(A) = -2*-1/2 – 3/2 = -1/2

A^T=

det(A^T) = -2*-1/2 – 3/2 = -1/2

6(b). False – Every system of linear equations has exactly one solution

Infinite Solutions:

x+y=1, 2x+2y=2

2x+2y=2 is basically x+y=1 when divided by 2.

Graph:

No Solutions:

x+y=0, x+y=1

One Solutions:

x+2y=1, 2x+2y=2

OpenLab assignment: Test #1 solutions

Coordinate with your group – post due Sunday, October 13

Congratulations on making it through Test #1!

For this week’s OpenLab assignment, you will work with your group to write up complete solutions for the test. Each member of the group is responsible for sharing solutions for one test problems so that as a group, you are sharing solutions for the whole test (if your group has only 6 members, one member will post solutions for two problems).

Group members’ email addresses can be seen by mousing over their names in the table above. The group can then decide how they would like to communicate. While each individual is responsible for posting their own solution, the group as a whole must ensure that all individual solutions are correct and complete.

For your individual post:

  • Title: Test #1 solutions problem #n (where n is the problem number you were assigned by your group)
  • Category: Test #1 solutions – Group m (where m is your group number)
  • In the body of your post, indicate which version of the test you are working from.
