DACA

Introduction

Why we chose DACA?

As a group, we all come from different immigrant backgrounds. We first picked “Immigration” as a topic, which was too general and broad. After filtering it, we had two topics to choose from; Travel Ban & DACA. We picked DACA because it’s a well-known and delicate topic in the U.S which affects most college students who come from a different background and aren’t citizens.

The sources we collected helped us get a full understanding of DACA. We researched DACA-related academic journals, the library, books and e-books to gather as much information as we could. We came to a conclusion that DACA affects many students and separates families, therefore it’s an important topic to spread.

At first, we wanted to document our performance by mapping. We wanted to head to all 5 boroughs, interview different people with different backgrounds and see the differences. However, we decided if we aim for college students, due to the fact that they’re mostly affected by DACA ending, we’d get better and more interactions and responses. Therefore, we chose NYCCT Voorhees building to set our performance. The diversity and how busy the building is also encouraged us to perform there.
