I really enjoyed that the author was very descriptive in his writing, there was a part in a particular that caught my eye when there was an accident at the water, in the text, it stated”the water rushing into me, and that particular burning agony that comes only to the drowning.” when this happened this has helped me visualize what was really going on in the story, it allowed me to understand what he’s going through, including his emotions and feelings. Also, I really enjoyed that the author used symbolism throughout his story in order to get to his reader, he speaks about the bridge and what it remembered him of, it symbolized “mothers”, he uses symbolism to connect to his memories. My question to the writer would be ” did you have anything against your mother even though you barely knew her?”

Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. I’ll be available through Zoom and will send an invitation via email that you should keep all semester. Try to join my meeting at the start of the hour, not at the end—since I may be talking to other students or have another appointment after the hour is up. If those times don’t work with your schedule, we can schedule a different time. This means you’ll have to schedule an appointment in advance. I suggest you have multiple times in mind, since your schedule may not mesh with mine!

I agree with “…it allowed me to understand what he’s going through, including his emotions and feelings…” because that scene is so tense, and it is very easy for us to picture what happened that day.
I agree with how descriptive the author was about drowning, it made me realize the fear of drowning because it’s not pain but a need for air. That also gave me an idea of what the character was going through.
The detail that Coates uses to describe drowning is incredibly salient, creating vivid image, and even feeling of what drowning is, which makes the circumstance even more frightening, because now you know exactly what they’re going through and it feels much more realistic.
