My experience writing memoirs in this class wasn’t so bad. Admittedly, I didn’t know what to expect in terms of what our journals were going to be, but I liked the way it was done. Specifically, being given assignments where we wrote about ourselves (Journal #2) or something close to us (“Meet My ____”) and then made the memoir out of those things. Based on seeing the word “memoir”, one would think that even if we’re not writing full-on autobiographies, we would be writing about entire moments and/or events in life on a relatively bigger scale than beloved objects or times we felt “anonymous”, or at least something not as specific as those things. I definitely didn’t expect these things to be turned into pieces we would label as memoirs. However, unlike being given general premises which then have to be scaled down to be approached and written, the premises given to us do the opposite, starting small and therefore giving us room to scale up. I appreciate that.
