What I really enjoyed about Gurba’s work was that she was not afraid to say what was on her mind. She was very loud and opiniated about the topic she had to write about which was this book called “Dirt.” I agreed with most things that she had stated. The author of “Dirt” is trying to write in the perspective of a Mexican woman dealing with things in Mexico that she supposedly has not seen before, but a person living in Mexico would know about such things. She really did not have any rights writing such story when she is not from Mexican heritage, and I liked that Gurba called her out for that. Talking about certain things in people’s culture is a very sensitive subject and only qualified people should talk about such things. I would ask Gurba how she would have re-written “Dirt” to fit the normal way a Mexican would have gone through what the main character of “Dirt” did. How she would have made it authentic.
