The memoir was written by a female professor based in the US more likely Oregon. She held a passion for writing, teaching, and publishing. She had a daughter and was married to an abusive husband who also had the same profession but was not as accomplished as she was. She starts by emphasizing on the fact that women with potential often face more challenges because either they’re in relationship, take care of a family or just not as encouraged to achieve more. After reading her piece about her experience with her ruthless husband, it really gave me a prospective into what domestic violence actually is because I don’t usally have those type of conversations with people that are going through such experiences. She has a very eloquent way of writing, almost like a blueprint which gives the reader an idea of the writer’s struggles emotions. I grew up hearing about domestic violence being a societal issue and even saw clips and ads, but they weren’t as chilling as reading the work of someone narrating her/his experiences. Yes I had a couple of questions about the details regarding the relationship between anonymous and her husband. Given the fact that she already decided to write about such awful experiences and trauma with her husband many readers would naturally pose the question of why she won’t take the risk and publish it under name. Women at her position shouldn’t feel the fear to talk about such issues with the world. From reading her piece I could tell she has a demeanor of a strong woman, so I would naturally wonder why she chose to remain anonymous despite the legal issues or consequences she might face. Reading her piece really sheds light on the issue in general especially to those who haven’t seen it first hand.
