After reading Jones “My First Day”, it reminded me of my own childhood. I remember vaguely when my mom dropped me off to daycare and I was scared that I held onto her. She had to leave for work but I was crying because I did not want her to leave. The story is based on the perspective of the daughter as she is revisiting her memories when she was five but is now a grown up. I enjoyed how the mother’s feelings and thoughts are unknown to the readers which brings a sense of curiosity of the mother’s intentions. I do believe that the mother did not have the opportunity to obtain a proper education hence, she seems to make sure that her daughter receives what she could not. My question to the author is, how does she feel that her mother was not able to read and did she take the courage to teach her mother?
