After reading the first chapter from Patchett’s work, I realized that there are people like Lucy who are self-centered. I like how detailed the trauma Lucy went through was described because I was able to empathize with her during the beginning of the chapter. As I continued to read, I did not quite understand why Lucy felt like she had the right to treat the author like she was a stranger even worse. I did find it odd when Lucy jumped on her and hugged her as if they were the closest of friends for years when Lucy has been neglecting her. I wonder if Lucy will find the right man who will love her as a person instead of fulfilling his sexual needs? Or if she will come to a realization that she is depending on other men for her happiness when she should be finding it within herself? Will the author reveal if there were hidden motives behind Lucy’s behavior?
