The purpose of Wollstonecraft writing this letter is fight for women’s rights as well as their education. She says that women’s rights are not being respected and as a result, they are going find ways to gain privileges, even if means breaking the law. She is writing the letter to try to argue that women should not be forced to a role just because they are a woman. I would say that Wollstonecraft’s discourse community is something along of the lines of a group of women, most likely activists. The recipient, M. Talleyrand, is definitely outside of her discourse community.
Young is presenting this speech in order to spread her message, that disabled people shouldn’t be seen as motivation, they shouldn’t be treated differently even if their intentions are good, they should be seen as normal. The issue she speaks about is that disabled people are objectified by non disabled people. This is an issue because this is what society has been taught, in a way it’s insulting to the disabled. By calling someone disabled brave because they’re disabled, it shows the low expectations you have for them. I would say that Young’s discourse community is the disabled and the recipients are non disabled people who are not in her discourse community.
