Bresson talk about how life is fluid and that moment can not be repeated. When you take a photograph there are many elements that come together in a decisive moment. Bresson states that geometry is his “greatest joy” and that it is an order of things that is right in front of you. When he composes a photograph he takes a little of a fly on the wall approach. He is always at the ready looking at the light, shapes and waiting for a subject to move into the frame. Other times he takes portraits often in peoples homes. He composes pictures of political unrest putting himself at the right place at the right time. Bresson likes to compose his pictures in places he has lived for a while.

The order of things come from framing and working the subject. The photographer makes the order by framing and composition. The expression making photos begets making photos.
Which means as you take photos, each is a sketch that that you can learn from and build your vision to produce the successful image. Shoot a lot, watch the light, frame, compose and work the subject. Bresson shot a lot to get that decisive moment. As Ralph Gibson once told me ” if it takes 30 photos to get 1 good one, take 150 “
