05 Discussion

Each week you will need to respond to two questions posted. Your response should be a minimum of 150 words for both questions. You should also include at least one response to your fellow students. The responses are a requirement for participation part of your grade.

Question 01 –

Name three kinds of controls you have over a gradient?

Question 02 –

How would you change the color of a gradient stop? Describe three ways to change colors.

    Question 01

    1. Color Stops. These are the points on a gradient where one color ends and another starts.
    2. Gradient Type (Linear or Radial). You have control over whether the gradient follows a straight line (linear) or radiates out from a central point (radial).
    3. Angle/Direction. For linear gradients, you can control the angle or direction of the gradient, determining how the colors shift. Changing the gradient’s angle lets you customize how it flows, whether horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

    Question 02

    1. Color picker tool (Manual). Select the gradient stop you wish to modify, and from there, choose the new color either by inputting hex codes, RGB values, etc
    2. Eye Dropper Tool. By using the eyedropper tool, you can match the color of the stop to any color found elsewhere in your artwork.
    3. Swatch Library. You can always pick a color directly from these preset options.

In Adobe Illustrator, the three types of controls over gradients are changing the colors of the gradient, the direction of the gradient, and the type of gradient it is.

There are three ways to change the color of a gradient stop. The first way to change the color is to open the swatches menu and find the color you want. You can then drag the swatch onto the gradient stop to apply the color. The second way to change the color is to select the gradient stop you want to change and click the dropper icon in the gradient menu. You are then able to click the desired color of another shape on the canvas to copy that color onto the gradient stop. The third way to change the color is to select the gradient stop you want to change and change the color by using the sliders in the color menu.

Three controls you have over gradients are the type (linear, radial, or freeform), the color, and the angle/ direction (what area the lightest or darkest color is coming from) of the gradient.

Three ways to change the color on a gradient stop.

    1. you can open your swatches pannel, drag your desired color, and drop it on the color stop you choose to change.
    2. you can double-click your stop and it will bring up a color panel where you can manually tweak your color and change it.
    3. you can select your stop, click the eyedropper tool, and select a color you may already have out and want to reuse.

    Question 01

Three of the many controls you have over gradient are type (linear, radial, and freeform), color, and direction.

    Question 02

One way to change the color of a gradient stop is to double click on the stop you want to change. This opens up the color picker. Then click the color you want to change it to.

Another way is to click on a color in your swatches and drag that to the stop you’d like to change.

A third way is to click on the gradient stop you want to change and use the Fill to change the color.

The three controls you have on a gradient are Linear Gradient, Radial Gradient, and Freeform Gradient.

The three ways of changing the color of the gradient stop are using the color picker, dragging and dropping and entering color values. By using the color picker click on the gradient stop and a color box will open. You then choose your desired color. Using drag and dop you can choose a color from the thrumatch box that is found in the swatches menu. You then choose your desired color and then drag it to the box with the plus sign on the gradient slider. For the color value you select the gradient stop and enter the color values in the desired box.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about freeform gradients! They’re actually really useful for more complex designs where you need greater control over how colors blend.
