Overview:

The ground plane “breaks the picture surface” by going back into space. In Adobe programs it is defined by the x and z axes. As the ground plane defines the surface on which objects rest, depicting the ground plane, and where objects lie on this ground plane is essential for creating a realistically rendered world. Drawing a square-tiled grid on the ground plane, walls and ceiling helps measure relative scale of objects as they recede toward the vanishing points. In Adobe the walls are defined by the x and y axes.
