Overview:
Drawing complex objects is difficult because objects are not simply defined by their contours. Their invisible sides are just as important as their visible. To be able to draw any object (or person) from imagination requires understanding the spatial and volumetric relationships between the object’s features. Analyzing the object into its component parts, and then analyzing each part in terms of its own 3-dimensionality can greatly simplify drawing something complex. Putting each feature into a 3-dimensional box with visible and invisible sides, and then constructing these boxes to form the object’s structure will enable an artist to draw anything from any imagined viewpoint.
