Reminder: Written Report due tonight!

Dear Class,

Remember, Written Reports for the group project are due tonight before midnight on turnitin.com! (Unless you are the editor in your group, and then your report is due on the same day your group presents).

Please remember to upload the paper at least a few minutes before midnight, so that you have time to make any changes based on  the “originality report.”

Please also remember to check your submission meets the requirements, outlined on the instruction sheet (link here).

See you this afternoon.

Best,

Dr. M

Midsemester grades posted

Dear Class,

I have finished grading for the first half of the semester. You can see your assignment grades for homework and papers by visiting turnitin.com. You can see your midterm exam grade and participation grade on Blackboard, by going to: Tools—My Grades.

“Mid-semester Grades” reflect your performance in the class so far. These are based on all available grades up until now except the homework assignment (#4) due yesterday. You should receive one of the following letters:

P: Passing (>65%)

BL: Borderline (55%-65%)

F: Failing (<55%).

I strongly suggest arranging a meeting with me on Zoom if you received a BL or F.

Please note that only about 43% of the points available for the semester have been determined so far. This means there is still significant opportunity to change your grade!

I have also added a category to the grade center for class participation. It reflects your score out of 100 available points for the first 15 classes of the semester. If your participation grade is low, it is usually because you are either not attending class (or in some cases you are coming late) and/or you are not verbally participating in class. Changing these patterns of behavior can significantly increase your score, and in many cases it is still possible to raise this score to 100%! For details, look at the participation policy in the syllabus.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Reminder: Homework due today!

Please remember that, in addition to making comments on the lecture from last class, there is a homework assignment to bring to class today! This assignment is very important to do well, since it will help you to formulate the main thesis and arguments of your paper!

You will need to bring your assignment with you to class.

See you then.

Annotated Bibliographies Graded

Dear Class,

I have graded the annotated bibliographies. You can see your grades on turnitin.com, along with my comments.

Please note, I have not graded papers from students who have not informed me about their roles. Please submit your role on the google form (see the earlier post) ASAP if you have not already done so.

You are now ready to begin working on your papers. We will be talking more about the assignment in class, and there will be a handout on papers posted next week.

Enjoy your weekend!

Midterm exam grades are now available online.

You can see your score for the midterm by going to “Tools,” then “My grades.” You can see which answers you got wrong and right by clicking on “Midterm,” then clicking on the “Calculated Grade.”

We can discuss the exam when we meet on Tuesday.
