“Seeking an End to Cycles of Abuse”- Destiny Mabry
The Opening/Intro:
Destiny Mabry’s Title, “Seeking an End to Cycles of Abuse”, is effective because it gives a clear understanding of what the podcast will be about.
The podcast hooks the audience with sound clips of Marby’s mom singing and laughing, she then proceeds with sharing what her relationship is like with her mom. Marby begins to share her personal story about being in a toxic relationship and she adds a sound clip of her speaking with people from one of her school programs. Marby continues to give details about her relationship.
The Middle Part:
Marby introduces her sister Kia and her personal story on the matter. Marby adds snippets from videos Kia would send, she then continues to add more sound clips from Kia’ social media. Marby first portrays Kia’s family to be this perfect and happy family, but she then goes on to uncover the truth. Marby expresses her worries to us and adds noises of her clicking a mouse and typing on a keyboard saying she googles her sisters name in fear. Marby reveals Kia and her 2 children were murdered by her husband. Marby uses pathos to bring awareness on the topic of abusive relationships. Marby interviews/has a conversation with her mom and grandma to show how most people avoid talking about the topic. Marby explains the effects of not educating children on relationships.
Outro:
Marby explains that sharing her and her sister’s stories is one of the ways to help her heal. The last sound clip Marby uses is of Kia and her son’s voices. The overall tone she uses is serious and sentimental. Marby is hoping to bring awareness by sharing her and her sister’s story as well as getting more perspectives from other women such as her mother and grandmother. The targeted audience is mostly for women who are also in abusive relationships.
I would like to use my personal story just like how Marby did as well as add sound clips of my brother. I also want to interview my mom just like she did too. I really like the whole outline of her podcast, so I also plan on following this outline. I do also want to add some background information on my topic.
