Part 2 Summary

In the featured writing “Schools are killing curiosity’: why we need to stop telling children to shut up and learn”, Wendy Berliner tells us that schools need to encourage children to ask questions and be curious. According to the writer, teachers should encourage children’s curiosity over behavior and focus. The writer gives the example of Matt Caldwell, headteacher at a nursery school, who says that parents and teachers both agree that change needs to be made because they see results in kids when they are allowed to be creative and curious. The writer mentions how a study was done by American researchers showing that kids are less curious and aimed questions at improving their skills rather than deepening their understanding of a topic. The writer concludes by quoting Paul Howard jones promoting the importance of children being creative and curious.
