Resilience OR Mentor Quote – Alexis Rodriguez

It was summer of 2020, I had just received an email from the school notifying that I had a choice to pick AP classes. So of course, I had to think about my major in college and associate which AP classes would be more beneficial. I scrolled and took notes and even attended a meeting regarding the classes, where the teachers that taught the respective ap classes would persuade us to join. After the end of the meeting, I had a few in mind; AP Computer Science, Statistics, Chemistry, and AP Government. I chose all 4, now I had to wait for a response. A week went by, and they notified me that I’ve been accepted to all of them, however there were two classes that were conflicting. AP Statistics and AP Computer Science, both classes are important, but due to me not thinking about it correctly I decided to choose AP Statistics.

As I attended AP Statisics on the first day of school, it was a small class, no less than 20 students. I sat somewhere near the middle of the class because I was passionate about math and statistics would be easy, which it was. I spent half of my year in that class, and I didn’t feel encouraged to keep taking the class. I was in AP Chemistry at 9 am and I was talking with a friend, and they were showing a program they coded for AP Computer Science, and it looked cool, and I was interested. I knew I made a mistake, so I decided later that day to go to the principal and demand that I replace statistics. After going back and forth it was accepted. Now I had a lot of schoolwork to catch up on but with me being well known in the school from being school president, giving the announcements and being friendly towards everyone especially friends in that class. I was able to study and catch up on my work, however it took a while.
