Naxos Music Library

We have excellent non-print resources featuring still images and videos but no music collections. However, we are currently considering Naxos Music Library for the library. It is on trial until December 31, 2011.
Naxos provides streaming music (music can not be downloaded). It chiefly consists of classical music but there is considerable supplemental material to aid in learning about music including analyses of specific works by many composers. Classroom faculty can create custom playlists.
City Tech Faculty: Contact Monica Berger mberger@citytech.cuny.edu for access to the playlist function.

New! bX Recommender Service

Users of Find It! may have noticed a new service. It’s called bX Recommender.

Based on your search, this service will show you additional articles, e.g.  “Other people who looked at this also looked at.” Up to 3 recommendations are shown up front but if you “View More,” you can view up to 7 additional recommendations (for a total of 10). If a recommendation is available in full text, the title will be underlined and you will see a full text icon shown.
The “Save Citations” option includes EndNote and RefWorks.

netlibrary has moved to EBSCO eBook Collection

Over the summer, netLibrary ebooks were migrated to EBSCOhost. The new collection is called EBSCO eBook collection. These ebooks can not be used on devices and Ebsco, as far as I know, has no plans to adapt them. To peruse the book online, there no need to do anything special. To download the book, the user has to login with their EBSCOhost individual account. A download is essentially a loan of an ebook–the ebook is available for a specific number of days as indicated when you download.
The downloaded file is read using Adobe Digital Editions, a free ebook reader from Adobe. Here is a tutorial on how to download ebooks from Ebsco: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAbmmu94I0g
FYI, if you click on a link in CUNY+ or Find It, the link will bear the name of the previous product, netLibrary, but forward successfully to EBSCO eBook Collection at the title level.

RefWorks 2.0 migration dates

RefWorks has announced some migration dates. We have enabled the 2.0 interface and we encourage everyone to become familiar with it before the switch over.

  • August 15, all users can enable both the classic and the new 2.0 interface.
  • October 29, 2011, the new 2.0 interface will be the default.
  • At the end of the year, the current/classic interface will be removed and only the new 2.0 interface will be available
