RefWorks enabled in CUNY+

Exporting from CUNY+ to RefWorks is now working. Here are some brief instructions:
1. After searching, check off the box to the left of the author on the results screen
2. select save/mail/export from the yellow menu
3. export the selected records to RefWorks (by leaving the e-mail blank and selecting “Full View” as the format). [select “go”]
4. next screen will prompt you to select RefWorks
5. RefWorks will open up and ask you to login if you have already started your session.

New Enhancements for the WilsonWeb CX Edition Interface

* New “My WilsonWeb” profiles. Using their email address as their password, library users can create their own sub-account within WilsonWeb, where they can create and manage saved searches, search histories, email alerts, and RSS feeds.
* RSS feed for new search results. Configure RSS updates via links on the Search Results or Search History pages.
* New “Content Discovery Keys” on Search Results page. Convenient links launch related searches, allow users to narrow results by author, subject, publication year, document type, and database (for multiple-database searches), or select previous searches from the Recent Searches listing. Pop Culture Universe trial

We’re trialing an interesting new product–Pop Culture Universe. It covers [from the publisher’s website] “new technology (iPods, gaming, gadgets)…Internet memes and chatspeak…movies, TV, radio…music…comics and graphic novels…sports and pastimes…fads, fashion, and fast food.” And it has tools for instructors to incorporate popular culture into the classroom as well as resources for student work. This product is on trial until Sept. 30.

Blackboard Workshops for Faculty

The Department of Instructional Technology will be conducting beginner Blackboard workshops for faculty on the following days during the Summer Semesters:

New online dictionaries/audio pronounciation help

Oxford Language DictionariesOxford Language Dictionaries Online [OLDO] has been upgraded to now include Russian and Chinese [previous languages include French, German, Italian, and Spanish.
Another enhancement–OLDO now offers audio pronunciation. Pronunciation is available for headwords in every language, including Chinese and Russian. To access the pronunciations simply click on the loudspeaker icon next to the appropriate word on the entry page.

Future Library Exhibits

The Library Exhibits Committee has approved the following exhibit proposals for the 2008/09 academic year. The current Brooklyn Bridge exhibit will remain up until the end of August 2008.
September 2008 – Banned Book Month display
October 2008 – Photographs by Prof. Carole Harris (English)
November 2008 – Photographs by Barbara Kitai (English)
December 2008/January 2009 – Toy/model trains from Professors Nicholas Manos and Robert Russo
February 2009 – African American History Month (theme to be announced) + quilts from Prof. Marta Effinger
March/April 2009 – Brooklyn in the later decades of the 20th century, from Brooklyn College’s Archives
May/August 2009 – The plays of August Wilson
In addition there will be smaller displays in the interior display cases, such as the Italian American History Month display from Prof. Phil Russo in October 2008.

New content on Oxford African American Studies Center

An additional 600 biographies from the African American National Biography have been added as well as 400 articles from the Oxford Companion to Black British History, the first-ever reference work to explore the story of Britain’s black population over the span of nearly 2,000 years. 30 multimedia clips are new, including Colin Powell speaking on changes in the military, historical footage of civil rights protests in Birmingham, Alabama, a United Negro College Fund TV Ad, and more.
