The podcast I listened to was “THERE GOES THE NEIGHBORHOOD: EAST NEW YORK, DID IT WORK?” and what I think about the speaker’s job on this podcast is that he did well by communicating the neighbors’ ideas by interviewing them and giving them a few minutes to express themselves about all changes made in their neighborhood. In this interview, the interviewers recalled to the time they felt safe in their neighborhood and that these changes leave them with doubt about their future, however, they hope for the better. What I liked about this podcast is that this is a primary source with reliable information since all this is given by people who reside in the area, they have seen all the changes and how is affecting and/or benefiting them.

Urban Walking
After I read “Urban Walking Isn’t Just Good For The Soul” and using this reading for observational exercise with my everyday commute to college which is by train. It has become a daily routine that after reading this article I realize that I haven’t give a lot of attention to my surroundings, sometimes I see something new at the train station or sidewalks, but at the same time I wonder if it really is something new or if it’s something I haven’t notice. The article points out that the countryside is boring because “one field is very like another, and many of them are filled with cows…” which i totally disagree, to my personal opinion it’s better the countryside rather than a noisy and congested city.
How is change managed in a city, and who manages that change? Do people have a “right” to the city?
In both films “My Brooklyn” and “Citizen Jane: Battle for the City” shows that is the people with money who have the power and right to decide whether to construct or to demolish. We should have a bit of right upon constructions because it affects us. Changes in the city are managed by rich people without previous notice. Government and people that pay for construction should also see the other side of the coin, they have to analyze pros and cons, and more in depth cons because it will affect us and could be for them too. As in the film pointed out, “Buildings isolate communities” meaning as also said in the film that women were more safe without highway, because the community had look out for each other.
