Career

Human services majors are taught to seek change in society. In the beginning I was a bit timid when I heard this because although yes my goal is to help others, but when I hear the term advocating, I think of holding rallies and marches and I didn’t see myself as being so bold but more in the background sitting behind a desk. I currently work for KIPP AMP elementary charter school, located in Brooklyn, NY and I finally discovered what I wanted to fulfill with my degree. As a child I wanted to be a teacher. I saw myself being in front of the classroom, leading. By the time I reached high-school I wanted to study law, making a change. Once I graduated high-school, the first college I attended, I majored in Business administration, learning what moves the companies. Now that I am weeks away from graduating, I found myself to come back around full circle to understanding what each of those qualities meant regarding to shaping my future. Yes, I still want to work with the youth, but not in a classroom. Yes, I want to make a change, but not in law enforcement. Yes, I want to administer, but not just for anyone’s business. I want to administer change in youth by providing guidance within the school setting.
