Internships

During my final year at City tech, I had a bit of a struggle regarding my internship. Due to my financial need to work, I switched sites a few weeks in to the semester to intern at my new job. I currently work for KIPP AMP charter school located in Brooklyn, NY as an Instructional Assistant and I intern with the school’s social worker. Part of my duties as the intern include conducting student observations, shadowing the social worker in group sessions and finally facilitating my own. As my change project, I created a classroom push-in session teaching the students about the importance of Mindfulness and how to apply it in the classrooms as well as in life. I used a variety of outside resources, via the internet, to research the best methods in creating a lesson that would be receptive to this young group. I created charts, used puppets and showed two videos to demonstrate my idea and overall I must say that it was a success. Many of the teachers reached out to me asking how can they incorporate mindfulness as an everyday part of their classroom structure for the next upcoming school year.
