About Me

Currently enrolled into my final semester here at City tech, I have been privileged with the opportunity to meet wonderful people; learn and grow professionally and academically; and challenge myself to keep striving to make change in today’s society. Growing up as an only child I was very lonely. Most, if not all of my adolescent years, I was sheltered by my parents which made my transition into high school quite an experience. There I became exposed to things that I believed only happened in movies or fiction television shows. Although I had my fair share of a dosage of reality, my upbringing kept me from straying down the wrong path and therefore allowed me to stay grounded. Once I began working, many of my jobs was as an counselor to the youth at afterschool and summer programs and I witnessed the need for many of the children to have that guidance to help them on a path to success. Many things that people are exposed to as a child can effect them as they get older and therefore if they had someone to simply talk to as a child, it may give them the opportunity to make better choices as they get older. I want to be that voice. I want to talk to that young man who feels that he has something to prove by buying a gun. I want to talk to that girl that feels that she needs to feel loved by being promiscuous. My goal as a human services professional is to help put an end to the constant incarceration, pregnancies and other negative stigmatisms of our youth.
