Grading for Shade and Sun Chart Studies with Trig is available

You can check blackboard to see your grades on the Sun Study and Trig assignment.  The average score in the two classes was 40.82 and 41.94 with lows of 10 & 11 and highs of 90 & 100.

We will need to do some more work on working through this type of assignment including a review of the trigonometry involved.  Please do not stress over your grade – you will get a chance to complete another assignment to offset/replace this grade.

Grading for Ecological Footprint is available

Grading is available for you Ecological Footprint Studies. Please refer to blackboard to view your grade. If your work was incomplete in some way you have been asked to resubmit. If you do not resubmit the current grade will stand.

Also – please pay more attention to the naming of your files. I did not take points off for poor naming strategies will do so in future. We will rename proper file naming in class.

Also I thought you might want to see statistics that will allow you to compare your Ecological Footprint both student to student and class to class. See the chart below.

Questions on Shading Calculation Assignment Using Trig

I recommend you go about solving this problem two ways – both by doing your calculations and by drawing it in section using AutoCad.  If you do not get the same answers from both check both your drawing and your calculations as they should both match.

Step by Step:

  1. Sketch by hand in section showing the overhang or hedge and the building.
  2. Label all the information you know (height of the window, etc.)
  3. Check the sun chart to figure out the angle to use based on the chosen date – add this to your diagram.
  4. Remember S(O/H) C(A/H) T(O/A) when trying to decide if you need to use Sine, Cosign or Tangent.   (remember O = Opposite and H = Hypotenuse)

What to hand in:

  • submit a PDF of your work.  If you work by hand scan this and put it into a pdf.  If you work in AutoCad – print your drawing to PDF and include this.  You must show all your calculations.  Drawing in AutoCad is optional (but very useful) the Trig calculation are mandatory.

This is a useful link that explains the use of Sine, Cosine and Tangent.
