Workplace atmosphere

With my internship I am making a whole new website. My role in my internship is web designer.I am doing this through using WordPress. The supervisor, within the office,is Gilen Chan and I get this internship through talking to another professor. Before I started the internship class I contacted the internship coordinator Joel Mason who told me to then contact Dan Wong.Dan Wong is the professor of Web Design.Dan Wong said there was no web design internship he know of at the moment and he would keep his ears open to new internship. In the meantime I sent in resume and cover letters to internships but nothing come from there. When Dan Wong saw me the second week of classes he told me about the internship I am now at. On that same day me and Dan Wong meet with supervisor and I get the internship. It take me about one week to get started after that because there was some confession on the supervisor’s part on if it was on site or off site.

The attire of the company is formal but however I do not dress formal.I dress with my regular clothes like blue jeans and sneakers. The work station are offices with computers. I usually use a dell computer with no web design software. There are two lawyers in the office and each have there own office. The secretary and me both share an office. I typically work between 3 to 8 hours a day. I usually put in between 10 to 14 hours a week. Most of the time I take lunch and buy something outside but other times I just go straight through. You know how it is when you are so focused and enjoy what you are doing it is sometimes hard to stop.

I always work by myself in front of a computer putting together all the elements of their new site. I never had any collaborative projects because I was the only web designer in the office and the only way that know about coding a site. I was the only one that fully know how to use WordPress.I believe my performance at work is good but could be better if I communicated more with boss.An example of this is when I was working on the wordpress site for weeks and my boss wanted to see the site so she asked me send her a link.I could not do that because it was on a local host but I did not tell her. I figured I was about to leave so I would tell her next time at work. The next time discussed with Mrs.Chan about what was going as. As I talked to her I was trying to explain to her why Mrs.Chan could not see the site and it was not easy for her to understand.I had to show my boss, Mrs.Chan the site in person. My communication skills need work.

During my internship I would consider my boss, Mrs.Chan, as a mentor because of how out spoken she is and well developed communication skills. As a web design I need to further develop these skills and not be shy. I would consider Professor Wong as my networking since he is a web designer and can probably put me in touch with more designers. Another mentor and person with networking is the Assistant Linda Thai who graduated in the design field. Since she has graduated in the same field as me and been out there longer she gives me some good advice on what I can do know to help get a job later on. Mrs. Thai said that some places consider internship when hiring individuals while others do not. Mrs.Thai says the best thing to do is do volunteer work and internships to add to resume and my experience.
