From my experience, I learned about full-time jobs, internships, and opportunities that give me college experience.Although scheduling is difficult, they are willing to work with you. In the end, they give you contacts, a way to apply tothe company and a chance to show you how you would fit into their company. Due to my curiosity, I got more information and now all I need to do is wait for a response.

My internship did not involve collaborative projects with my co-workers; however, my job requires weekly collaboration with my co-workers. It is crucial to communicate with one another during working together, both verbally and non-verbally. As part of the tour, there is a brief discussion about where we are heading, and who will cover who during the tour. Sometimes during tours, we need alternations between the two teams. To prevent one person from saying too much, and to ensure the tour runs smoothly. When we have speakers, that is a luxury we have but sometimes it’s not always the case.

There are times when we have to go with the flow. We have to make sure that what the audience is given is ingrained in our minds and that we can recall it in the near future. I usually work in groups of 2-3, answering any questions attendees need answered. It was very successful from what I saw. The first time, I was anxious to speak publicly and tripped on my words. However, when I talked about my major at the Pearl Building, I was much more comfortable. What made it successful was my major knowledge. I knew what to say which is half the battle. As for other things, I was unsuccessful when I didn’t know what to talk about. While I had the information in my head, I wasn’t sure what to say.

This is why I chose to rectify the situation by bringing a checklist with me so I have a record of what I have covered and what I have not covered. In my opinion, I would refer to it when I am listening to my partner speak or when I know it is time for me to speak up.

It has been my experience on the job that I have learned the importance of being proactive and taking on leadership roles.During my internship. We are put in positions to do things ourselves without guidance from a professor. Or someone withmore experience than we do in design. This leaves me to learn to teach myself how to do things and use the experience I have to do what needs to be done. As an example, when I took the footage, I had to communicate with everyone else. Establish what I need. Yes, I am doing things related to my major, as a animation student and as a communication design student. Creating films, graphic design, and animation. My typical internship day is working at home or come into the office on Friday. At home working on videos for the program.

It was during the process of doing the work that I had to deal with certain challenges such as technical difficulties, issues at work, and family emergencies. Such as the work wouldn’t render properly, or the computer refused to work. At the internship site, I had trouble getting the footage I needed. To rectify the problem, I began working on campus as the computers were updated. Coming early and staying late wherever I could, like on my days off. I reached out to Jennifer Humala, who was the assistant to my supervisor who was also a COMD student. She gave me things to memorize for the tour and gave me feedback on how I was doing and where I can improve. I went to the supervisor directly to rectify the lack of material to work with. She handled the situation to the best of her ability, and things are progressing. I finished one of the video assignments, and completed a flyer for the internship.

The workplace culture is very welcoming. During meetings with my supervisor, she likes to start with breathing exercises, and a 2-minute meditation. This is to focus our minds on the task at hand. To focus. My supervisor is very friendly but expects me to be extremely independent in doing jobs. Since she manages everything else, she makes it very clear that she relies on the interns to do their finest. Since I am a newcomer to the job, she is very patient with me as well as everyone else and encourages us to give feedback on what we can do to improve things. I am still learning the internship layout but things are working very well.

Interns can come in casual wear. as long as their outfit is related to City Tech to show they are one of the tour guides. My typical work day for my internship is Monday and Wednesday. When I have time I start recording the footage needed. On Friday I arrive at 9:45 for a meeting. We have 10 AM and if we have in-person workshops we usually do one or two. My supervisor mostly communicates by email or Slack. Informing people when things are happening or what to expect. On Fridays, we meet in person for an hour to an hour and a half. I use After Effects, Premiere, and Media Encoder.

My role in the company is as a Communication Design Intern. This means I am responsible for the media and ways to improve company awareness at the school. Which means Photography, Video Editing and Animation. Recently I wasbeing trained to help with tours and provide my input on what we can do better. During my first in-person tour, I touredthe COMD department. In my opinion, I could have done better at public speaking.

I knew the answer. I was extremely shy to say it in front of people. I came to this internship site by looking at the internship website about CUNY Explorers. I scheduled an interview in the Nanm Building on the fifth floor with my supervisor. Her name is Illia Silva, and along with alumni and seniors, I am trained to give tours of the building. It was one interview and I was extremely nervous but due to me being a Communications Design student and my availability, I was accepted. I didn’t have to wait long. But after getting a job in December we started on January 11th.

The questions I was asked were the usual interview questions, like tell me about yourself, what do you like? What are you skilled at? And how available am I? In terms of design work, I started planning what I wanted to do with the various projects I was given.
