The textile industry in Canada has suffered throughout the years because of the increase of offshoring to underdeveloped countries. However, Canada is progressing with its synthetic fiber manufacturing (DuBreuil & Lu, 2020). Synthetic fibers like polyester and nylon, are man-made from synthesized non-fibrous materials. Materials like petroleum, which is a natural resource that is produced in Canada. They are used to create fabrics for outdoor and performance wear (2020) which seems to be popular amongst Canadian consumers.

Canada can turn to their allies when in need of imports of more materials like natural fibers. They have the nations that are apart of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) like Italy, France, Spain, and Turkey (Nato, 2020). They also have agreements like the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). NAFTA allows Canada to receive imports and export to the United States and Mexico, while the TPP allows Canada to expand imports and exports to the “Asian-Pacific region” (Caparol, 2019). Expanding to nations like Japan, Singapore,  and Vietnam.
